Privacy Policy
Last updated July 2026. This page explains what information Railstile collects when you read this site or sign up for our notes, and how that information is used.
What we collect
Railstile is an editorial site, and most of what we collect is ordinary web traffic information: the page requested, general browser and device information, and referring links, gathered automatically by our hosting infrastructure. This information is used in aggregate to understand which articles are being read and is not used to build a profile of any individual reader.
If you use the newsletter signup form on our homepage, we collect the email address you provide. That address is stored so we can send occasional notes from the editorial desk, described in more detail below.
Newsletter signups
The newsletter form on this site stores a local confirmation flag in your browser when you submit it, and is intended to represent a request to receive occasional notes by email. We do not sell, rent, or trade email addresses collected through this form to any third party. You can ask to be removed from any list at any time by writing to the address below, and we will remove you within a reasonable time.
Cookies and local storage
This site uses browser local storage only to remember that you've already seen the newsletter confirmation message, so it doesn't display repeatedly. We do not use tracking cookies to follow you across other websites, and we do not run third-party advertising trackers on this site.
Cutlist app
If you use the Cutlist companion app described on this site, any project data you enter (dimensions, part names, notes) is used only to generate the cutting diagrams and checks the app provides. We do not use project data entered into Cutlist for advertising purposes.
Third parties
We may rely on standard infrastructure providers (such as hosting and content delivery services) to serve this website. These providers may process technical connection information as a normal part of delivering web pages, under their own standard operating practices, but we do not share reader-identifying information with them beyond what is necessary to serve the page you requested.
Your choices
- You can browse this entire site without providing any personal information.
- You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time by contacting us.
- You can ask what information we hold about you, and ask us to delete it, by writing to us.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
